The beauty of the Cliffs and the weather is that they can be cloaked in fog one minute and basking in the sun’s rays the next. The weather is highly unpredictable.

So when visiting, it’s best to come prepared for all types of weather with a good rain jacket and a pair of walking boots. Whatever the weather, the Cliffs have been voted in the world’s 25 most popular ‘selfie spots’, clocking in at no.25 as per Instagram in 2021.

Visit outside of peak times – which are between 11am and 4pm – for a more pleasant and peaceful experience. Sunrise and sunset visits are very special and memorable.

It is advisable if you are travelling to the Cliffs by car to arrive outside peak hours for maximum comfort and enjoyment of the Cliffs. See opening hours and admission prices for families, students, seniors etc.

Weather Hazards

From time to time, there are high winds or other hazardous weather conditions at the Cliffs of Moher, which is why we follow the Met Eireann weather warning protocols. If you are visiting us in periods of high winds, please be aware of the warning signs which are displayed on our website and social media platforms as well as at the entrance to the carpark and coach park.

Weather Status

Status Yellow

Weather conditions are hazardous, and visitors are advised to exercise extra caution, eg. winds are strong and require persons outdoors to take extra care particularly near cliff side pathways and viewing platforms.

Status Orange

Weather conditions are too hazardous to visit the Cliffs, eg. winds are gusting dangerously at the cliff areas and it is no longer safe for visitors to go to the cliff viewing areas. The visitor centre building and site is CLOSED or preparing to close and EVACUATE.

Status Red

Weather conditions are so dangerous that the centre has been closed and any visitors or staff on-site have been evacuated from the site. Under Status Red, winds are deemed to be extremely dangerous, and it is not safe for staff to remain on site. Under no circumstances should you proceed with a visit under these conditions.

How long should I spend here?

To enjoy everything the beautiful county of Clare on the West Coast of Ireland has to offer, we recommend spending a minimum of two days. On your visit to the Cliffs of Moher, give yourself a minimum of two hours, though many visitors choose to spend a little longer. Where to park?

The main Cliffs of Moher Experience car park is on the opposite side of the road from the Visitor Centre and the Cliffs. On arrival, please drive to the admission pod and have your tickets available for exchange for the Cliffs of Moher site passes. This will give you access to every area of the Cliffs of Moher Experience.
